The First One

There always has to be a first.  I hate that.  It would be so much easier if things worked in the seconds, or thirds, or better yet, fourths.  Then we would already be used to whatever it is we’re doing and there would be no more fear of change and all that.  Then again, we would hate fourths and wish it would be fifths.  What a wonderful breed of people we are, with our amazing talent for finding something to be afraid of.  Viva la Fear!  It makes us human.
